MOSCOW, August 29 - RAPSI. The court has sanctioned the arrest of an anti-corruption police officer for extorting one million rubles ($34,000) from the head of a mortuary, the Investigative Committee told RIA Novosti today.

Lt. Col. Vladimir Makeikin, chief of the operations unit at the economic security and anticorruption department, was arrested on August 23 along with a subordinate.

According to investigators, between August 15 and 23, the suspects extorted one million rubles from the head of a municipal mortuary in exchange for not bringing criminal charges against him. Also in exchange for the payments, the suspects promised to ignore the results of a mortuary inspection.
