MOSCOW, April 24 - RAPSI. The 38th unit of the Interior Ministry's "K" Department has been searched and the ministry investigated, following the arrest of an officer for corruption.

Investigators claim that the detainee promised to supply a businessman with copies of classified audit reports of his business in exchange for $100,000. The court has ruled to arrest the suspect on charges of large-scale bribery.

After the arrest the suspect declared his intent to cooperate with the investigation and testify against his colleagues and bosses. As a result there may soon be new suspects in the case.

The "K" Department has declined to comment on the situation.

Some 38th unit officers were also involved in the falsification of documents in the high-profile case of Evgeny Chichvarkin, a business tycoon who fled to London in 2008. One of the unit's executives, Valentin Groshev, has been under investigation on several occasions - his boss, Vladislav Filippov, was sentenced to jail for extorting $200,000 from a banker. The units senior officers are also suspects in another scandalous case of "illegal gambling" in the Moscow Region.
