Russian official detained in corruption case related to World Cup 2018
MOSCOW, April 28 (RAPSI) – The Leninsky District Court in Ekaterinburg detained head of the government property ministry for the Sverdlovsk Region in a criminal case related to reconstruction of a stadium for the FIFA World Cup in 2018, RIA Novosti reported on Thursday.
Earlier a source of RIA Novosti said that head of the ministry, Alexei Pyankov, was detained for two months in a criminal case regarding reconstruction of “Ekaterinburg Arena” stadium.
Another official, executive of the “Executive management of the government property ministry for the Sverdlovsk Region” Karina Gornostayeva was put under recognizance not to leave.
Several other officials are under suspicion of the involvement in criminal activity as well.
Reconstruction of “Ekaterinburg Arena” stadium is planned to be finished at the end of 2017 and will accommodate 35,000 spectators. Four football matches are planned for the stadium in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Earlier the Investigative Committee reported that head managers of the regional government property ministry received several bribes estimated at 31.5 million rubles ($484,000) for help with buyout of the briber’s property under higher price. Other criminal case is related to embezzlement of 55 million rubles ($846,000) on buyout of various real estate properties under the inflat
