17:42 06/05/2011

BAGHDAD, May 6 – RAPSI. Unidentified assailants attacked last night Judge Munir Haddad, who presided over former Iraq President Saddam Hussein's trial, a security spokesman told RIA Novosti.

“The crime took place near Karad in central Baghdad,” the source said. “Haddad was returning home when unidentified militants opened fire on his car using guns outfitted with silencers. One of his security guards was seriously wounded. The judge himself was not hurt.’

The assailants escaped.

Haddad presided over Hussein's final trial and was present at his execution.

Hussein was hanged on Dec. 30, 2006 for crimes against humanity.
