MOSCOW, January 20 - RAPSI. Prosecutor General Yury Chaika believes it is necessary to give a number of rights back to prosecutors, including the right to initiate criminal cases.

Prosecutors were deprived of the right in 2007, when the investigative authorities were removed from the Prosecutor General's Office into a separate agency.

The agency was eventually termed the Investigative Committee. In early 2011, the committee began to operate independently from the Prosecutor General's Office.

Today, the prosecutors are supervising compliance with the law, including, during preliminary investigations.
