WASHINGTON, February 10 - RAPSI. The Justice Ministry of Russia has proposed the United States entering into bilateral treaties on extradition and convicts hand over or join the relevant international convention procedures.

"The Ministry of Justice proposes the United States either concluding bilateral treaties on criminals extradition and convicts hand over. The second option is to persuade our U.S. partners into participation in convention mechanisms," said Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov to journalists on Thursday.

The Justice Minister is currently on a working visit in Washington. He had meetings with the Department of Justice leaders and Attorney General Eric Holder. The meetings focused in part on the law enforcement extraterritoriality by the U.S. party.

Russia and the United States have no extradition agreement and individuals convicted by US courts serve their term in the United States. Meanwhile the questions of returning Russian citizens kept in U.S. prisons or standing trial "are raised via diplomatic channels".
