MOSCOW, May 3 - RAPSI. The Supreme Court will hear on June 6 a complaint on the Central Election Committee's refusal to hold a referendum on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization, the court reported on its website on Thursday.

On April 13, the CEC turned down the idea after an expert group found it impossible to hold the referendum.

Earlier, leader of the unregistered Partia Dela (Party of Deeds) Konstantin Babkin proposed that the CEC conduct a nationwide referendum on Russia joining the WTO.

The referendum's promoters maintain that it is up to people to decide if Russia should join the organization, as they consider WTO membership to be unfavorable for the country.

The CEC ruled that the issue cannot be brought to the referendum as pursuant to the Constitution the federal government is authorized to decide on Russias WTO membership.

The government is expected to ratify the WTO agreement as federal law.
