MOSCOW, May 16 - RAPSI. The Tverskoy District Court in Moscow today ruled against former Menatep head Platon Lebedev in his lawsuit against the Finance Ministry, in which he sought to recover compensation for his illegal detention between May and August 2010.

Lebedev had previously filed an appeal against his illegal imprisonment with the European Court of Human Rights, who upheld his claim.

The judge pronounced only the verdict today, saying that the reasons for it will be announced in full on May 23.

In late 2010, the Moscow District Court sentenced Lebedev and former YUKOS head Mikhail Khodorkovsky to 14 years in jail, on charges of stealing 200 million tonnes of oil and money laundering. Under the first sentence, imposed in 2005, they were jailed for eight years and so taking into account the years they already spent in prison, they were due to be released in 2017. However, on May 24, the Moscow City Court reduced their sentences by one year and now Khodorkovsky and Lebedev are looking to be released in 2016.
