WARSAW, June 20 – RAPSI. Two Russians sentenced in Poland to several months in prison for fighting have appealed the court's decision. The appeal may be considered within a week, head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Warsaw Alexander Alexeyev said on Wednesday.

The fighting broke out on June 12, as Russia faced off against Poland in the Euro 2012 games. The two teams' fans clashed. Two Russians received suspended sentences of several months.

Another Russian fan who ran onto the field during the match has received a similar sentence and may be deported. A fourth Russian accused of throwing flares during the game was acquitted.

According to the diplomat, the appeal was filed by Dmitry Abramov and Pavel Lepikhov on June 18.

He expressed hope that all seven Russian citizens in custody in Poland for various violations committed during the football championship will soon be released.

Alexeyev said another Russian citizen is presently in a Polish hospital with a brain injury and he will likely be discharged from hospital in the near future.

The consulate’s employees have attracted attorneys to the case to protect the interests of the Russian citizens, Alexeyev said, adding that everything has been done to ensure they get home.
