MOSCOW, June 22 - RAPSI. Natalia Magnitskaya, Hermitage Capital Fund consultant Sergei Magnitsky's mother, has requested the Prosecutor General’s Office to change the charges against former jail warden Dmitry Kratov from neglect of duty to torture, the fund reports.

Magnitsky was charged with masterminding large-scale corporate tax evasion. He died in the Matrosskaya Tishina pretrial detention center on November 16, 2009 after spending nearly a year behind bars. However, he spent most of his prison time in the Butyrka jail.

The investigation into his death continues.

Kratov’s case has already been completed. He has been charged with neglect of duty resulting in death. He faces a five-year custodial sentence.

Investigators hold that Kratov improperly executed his responsibility to provide medical aid to the detainees, which resulted in Magnitsky’s death.

Magnitsky’s mother said the investigators have ignored evidence of the graver crime committed by Kratov. She has asked the prosecutors to replace the neglect of duty charges with torture.
