MOSCOW, July 27 - RAPSI. Counsel for oppositionist Alexey Navalny has announced that the case charging his client of inflicting material losses on Kirovles timber company will be brought against his client on July 30.
"We have received the following information: On Monday, the Investigative Committee will charge Navalny with causing material losses without signs of theft. The charges will certainly be raised, but the measure of restraint that will follow is still unclear", Navalny's defense attorney Vadim Kobzev told the Russian Legal Information Agency.
RIA Novosti has yet to reach the investigators for comments.
Navalny previously served as an adviser to the governor of the Kirov Region.
Investigators looked into Navalny's activity as an adviser on a voluntary basis and maintained that he talked the Kirovles company's management into signing an unfavorable timber contract. In May 2011, the committee announced the opening of the case, accusing Navalny of "causing property damage by deceit or abuse of trust in the absence of signs of theft," which is punishable by up to five years in prison.
In May 2012, Navaly reported in his LiveJournal blog that the case had been closed. The news was confirmed by a local investigator. However, the committee's spokesman Vladimir Markin later said the resolution to close the case had been reversed.
