MOSCOW, September 26 - RAPSI. President Vladimir Putin expects that the EU's supreme executive authority - the European Commission - will work harder to annul the visa regime between the EU and Russia.

"The issue of Russian-EU relations has also been discussed," Putin said during a press conference with Luxemburg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, "We underscored our interest in the earliest transition to a visa-free regime. I am pleased that the prime minister shares this approach, and I hope that our colleagues, including from the European Commission, will work in a more proactive manner to accomplish our common objectives."

In return, the prime minister thanked Putin for understanding Luxemburg's concerns regarding the cancellation of the visa regime.

Russia is in talks with the EU to amend legislation and to liberalize visa procedures, which would allow some citizens to travel without visas. Moscow and Brussels finished discussing the step-by-step transition in late November. The list of joint measures for developing an agreement on a visa-free regime was agreed upon at the Russia-EU summit in Brussels on December 14-15.
