MOSCOW, October 19 - RAPSI. A man charged with having fired a non-lethal gun into the sky while blocking Moscow traffic as part of an elaborate wedding convoy last month has requested that his case be referred to a military court, the magistrate's court reviewing the case told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com) on Friday.

"My client is a serviceman, so his case should be handled by a military court," Adil Magomedov's lawyer said.

The application has been forwarded to the Defense Ministry. The hearing has been adjourned until October 24, at which point a response is expected.

On September 30, the individuals took part in a wedding procession led by a Ferrari followed by other luxury vehicles, Gazeta.Ru reported. The cars blocked traffic, while some passengers began firing a non-lethal gun into the air. They justified their actions by claiming that it is a Dagestani cultural tradition.

A non-lethal gun is an informal term for a self-defense weapon firing rubber bullets. Fifteen wedding participants were detained and released after police reports were filed. The shooter was detained for 15 days.
