KRASNOYARSK, November 13 - RAPSI. The Krasnoyarsk District Court has upheld the motion for parole filed by physicist Valentin Danilov, who was convicted in 2004, the court's press secretary Maria Fomushina told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

"The court has just upheld a motion on his release. Danilov has been released for the term he has not served - three years, two months and eleven days," she said.
Fomushina said that Danilov will be released in ten days if the ruling is not disputed.

The Federal Security Service's Krasnoyarsk Regional Department initiated a criminal case against Danilov in May 2000. He was suspected of state treason and passing secret information to China. In February 2011, Danilov was placed in the investigative isolation ward, from which he was released on his own recognizance on September 27, 2002.

Following the trial in December 2003, the scientist was acquitted by jurors, but the Supreme Court found the ruling unlawful. The physicist was once again taken into custody on November 10, 2004.

Two weeks later, the Krasnoyarsk Territory Court sentenced the physicist to 14 years in prison on counts of state treason and fraud. Eventually the sentence was mitigated and reduced by one year.
