CAIRO, December 17 - RAPSI. The Egyptian Cassation Court has agreed to reconsider the case against former Information Minister Anas al-Fiqqi and former Egyptian Radio and TV Union Chief Osama el-Sheikh, who were previously sentenced to lengthy prison terms for embezzling state funds, the court told journalists on Monday.

The officials received seven and five years, respectively, for abuse of power and embezzlement.

In 2009, the two men issued a resolution according to which various satellite TV channels were made exempt from paying taxes for broadcasting regular Egyptian football championship matches.

They inflicted damages amounting to around $2 million to the state through their actions. The prosecutors asked for the strictest possible sentence for the defendants.

The court upheld their request.
