MOSCOW, February 20 - RAPSI, Sergei Feklyunin. Stanislav Drugalyov, the owner of nike.ru website which tells the story of Nike, the ancient Greek goddess of victory, has filed an appeal against the court ruling prohibiting the use of the word "nike" in the domain name, a court representative told RAPSI on Wednesday.

Nike International Ltd. demanded to prohibit the use of the word "nike" in the defendant's domain name, as the company is the copyright holder of the trademark family that uses the element - particularly for clothing and footwear.

As the claimant stated in court, the company has operated since 1964 and produces and sells sporting goods. The company has owned the well-known Nike brand name with priority rights since 1979.

The Moscow Commercial Court has ruled on January 15 to transfer the domain name to Nike's Russian office.

The Ninth Commercial Court of Appeals will handle the appeal, the hearing date has yet to be scheduled.
