MOSCOW, May 23 - RAPSI. A Croatian student who assaulted a judge of the Tverskoy District Court in Moscow has been sentenced to six years in prison, the Prosecutor General's Office reported on Thursday.
In May, 2012, Mirko Zanic became aware of an employment dispute between his mother and her employer being heard by a judge of the Tverskoy District Court. He decided to intervene and force the judge to rule in favor of his mother. On the morning of May 24, 2012, Zanic intercepted the judge as she was leaving home, blocked her path and demanded an explanation of the case. When the judge refused to comment, he threatened the woman and punched her in the face.
Zanic was arrested one and a half months later, in July 2012. He was charged with violence related to the administration of justice, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
The court upheld the opinion of the public prosecutor of the Tverskoy Inter-District Prosecutor's Office and sentenced Zanic to six years in a penal colony.
