MOSCOW, June 13 (RAPSI) - The Tagansky District Court has closed the Russian branch of the International Committee on the Fight Against Terrorism, Organized Crime and Corruption (ICOCRIM) chaired by Anatoly Remizov, the court's spokesperson Ksenia Lyapina told RAPSI on Thursday.

ICOCRM employees, who claimed to be members of law enforcement and security services, extorted $1.5 million from a Moscow resident, the Moscow police reported in November 2012.

Nine people, including Anatoly Remizov, were arrested in connection with that case.

The committee acted under the guise of providing assistance to the law enforcement agencies in their fight against terrorism, organized crime and corruption. The organization hired individuals, issued them service IDs, and offered them the opportunity to wear various types of uniforms. Some of these uniforms are confusingly similar to the official uniforms and insignia of the military forces and law enforcement agencies, the statement said.

ICOCRIM was established in 1998 to assist the law enforcement and security agencies of UN and EU member countries.
