VLADIVOSTOK, July 23 (RAPSI) - Russia's Primorye territory regional court rejected and appeal filed by the Maxim Gorky Memorial Library, and ruled that the library unlawfully exploited an American citizen, library director Aleksandr Brukhanov told RIA Novosti .

In February 2013, the Federal Migration Service deported an American citizen Anjela Stod, who taught an English class at the library. Federal Migration Service deemed it a violation of the religious visa under which the American volunteer came to Vladivostok. In June, a city court ordered the library to cease activity for 7 days.

The library faced an 800,000 ruble fine (about $24,700) or a 90-day hiatus of its activities; however, the court imposed the lowest possible reprimand, shutting the library down for a mere week. The attorneys representing the defendant appealed the ruling in an effort to clean up the library's reputation.
