DENPASAR, October 8 (RAPSI) – The Kremlin is waiting for an explanation and the prosecution of those responsible for an assault carried out against a Russian diplomat in the Netherlands, and will react accordingly to Amsterdam’s position on the incident, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The alleged assault took place this weekend. Armed men dressed in camouflage allegedly barged into the diplomat’s apartment and, under the guise of a child abuse report, beat him up, handcuffed him and took him to a police station. After being kept there until morning, the diplomat was released without any explanation or formal apology.

Russia issued a note of protest concerning the mistreatment of the Russian embassy employee Dmitry Borodin.

“This is a crude violation of the Vienna Convention. We await clarifications, apologies and the punishment of those guilty,” Putin said, speaking from Bali, where he is attending an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.
