MOSCOW, February 3 (RAPSI) - The Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) ad hoc division has registered its first case arising in connection with the Sochi Olympic Games, according to a statement issued by the CAS Sunday.

Austrian skier Daniela Bauer filed an application requesting that the CAS order the Austrian ski federation and the Austrian National Olympic Committee (NOC) to allow her to represent the country by serving on the Olympic team in the women’s freestyle ski halfpipe event.

Bauer claims that she met the qualification requirements and that there was room for her within the team quota. The statement estimated that a decision would be communicated by Tuesday.

The Lausanne-based CAS is operating a temporary ad hoc division in Sochi in order to deal with legal disputes arising in connection with the Olympic Games. All Olympic participants will be provided with free access to speedy justice, according to a media statement released by the court.

All CAS ad hoc division members present during the Olympics are legal professionals – including lawyers, judges, and professors specializing in sports law and arbitration. The statement notes that the ad hoc division decisions will generally have a 24-hour turnaround time.
