TALLIN, February 11 (RAPSI) - The press service of the Estonian Ministry of Justice reported Monday that a prison convoy delivered Milan Lukić to Estonia. Lukić was sentenced to life by the International Criminal Tribunal of the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) for military crimes.

Lukić will be serving his term at a Tartu prison under conditions common for other Estonian prisoners.

According to ICTY, Lukić was a leader in the Serb paramilitary group known as the White Eagles that operated in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was convicted of committing crimes against local Muslims between 1992 and 1995. In 2009, the tribunal gave Lukić a life sentence. Three years later, in 2012, his appeal was turned down.

Lukić was found guilty of crimes against humanity, including persecution on political, ethnic and religious grounds, murder, violence and extermination, as well as war crimes.

In 2008, Estonia signed an agreement with ICTY according to which the Tartu prison would be accepting prisoners convicted of war crimes. Lukić is the third convict to have been tried by ICTY and to serve a sentence in Estonia. Milan Martić and Dragomir Milošević were taken to Tartu in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
