MOSCOW, May 13 (RAPSI, Maria Petrova) - The Naro-Fominsk Town Court on Tuesday found seven young women guilty of battering a disabled girl in the Moscow Region, the court’s spokesperson told RAPSI.

Three young girls received a three-year suspended sentence. Other defendants were given prison sentences of between 1.5 and 5.5 years. The court also ordered them to pay 1 million rubles ($28,402) in compensation to the victim.

Investigators found that the victim was on friendly terms with the defendants but occasionally suffered their indignities.

On September 10, several young women who live in Kalininets village in the Moscow Region brutally beat the girl using in particular a bag and a bottle. Moreover, they recorded video footage with a mobile phone. The girl was taken to a hospital and miraculously survived.

More than 60 witnesses have been questioned in this case.

Depending on the role in the crime, the defendants have been charged with robbery, intentional infliction of grave harm, and encouraging minors to participate in criminal activities.

According to the investigators, four of the defendants are minors. The incident caused a public uproar. The attackers' social media accounts were flooded with indignant commentary once they were revealed by bloggers.
