WASHINGTON, D.C., June 11 (RAPSI) - Federal District Court in Seattle on Tuesday sentenced former Microsoft employee Alex Kibkalo, who was charged with stealing and then leaking company secrets, to three months in prison, according to the court documents.

Kibkalo, who was arrested on March 19, will remain in detention until June 19. The court decision may be appealed in 14 days.  Earlier, Kibkalo pleaded guilty to data theft charges and signed a plea bargain.

Kibkalo worked for Microsoft in Lebanon, where he was allegedly feeding confidential data to a French blogger. According to Microsoft’s investigation, Kibkalo uploaded software for the new Windows 8 RT, ARM devices, and Microsoft Activation Server SDK into a cloud system Windows Live SkyDrive. After that he gave the links to the uploaded files to the French blogger.

The French blogger whose identity has not been disclosed yet, gained notoriety after publishing screenshots of unreleased Windows operating systems. He uploaded the information from Kibkalo to his twitter and sold Windows Server activation keys through eBay.

Kibkalo was an employee of Microsoft from 2005 to 2012. In 2012 he received negative results during employee evaluation, and threatened the company that he would leave unless the results were altered. According to the investigation, he is currently working for American software company 5nine, which also operates in Russia.
