MOSCOW, July 21 (RAPSI) – Ecuadoran authorities have extradited Serbian national Ivan Savkic, who organized cocaine runs from South America to St. Petersburg, Russia on transatlantic ships, announced the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office.

Savkic organized a group of drug traffickers at the port of Puerto Bolivar in 2011. It also included Bogdan Ostahie, Nicola Chorin, Valery Kortunov, Oleg Mankiewicz and several others. The group allegedly organized a large drug shipment to Russia the same year.

Russian law enforcers have completed an investigation of some of the group’s members.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Savkic was put on the international wanted list in December 2012. Russian prosecutors sent a request for his extradition to Russia as soon as it was established that he was living in Ecuador. The Ecuadoran president approved Savkic’s extradition in May 2014.

The Russian drug police often expose large drug supply chains to Russia, like the one in June this year, when they confiscated nearly 45 kilograms of Afghan heroin.
