MOSCOW, February 2 (RAPSI) - The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in Eastern Ukraine will announce general mobilization, RIA Novosti reports on Monday citing head of the republic Alexander Zakharchenko.

Zakharchenko claims that the military commandment of the republic plans to increase the current military personnel to 100,000 people, including the forces of the LPR. He specified that the mobilization in the republic will only involve recruitment of volunteers.

“It is more correct to say that we are recruiting volunteers, not mobilizing people,” Zakharchenko explained, adding that volunteers will go through training and then be sent to the reserves until special notice. He added that the procedure will take about six months.

The partial mobilization law came into force in Ukraine on January 20. The country’s ministry of defense plans to call up around 104,000 people.
