MOSCOW, March 2 (RAPSI, Diana Gutsul) – Opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who is under administrative arrest, has asked the Presnensky District Court to allow him to attend Boris Nemtsov’s funeral, his lawyer, Vadim Kobzev, told RAPSI on Monday.

The defense team has asked the court to suspend Navalny’s administrative arrest from 6 a.m. on Tuesday to 6 a.m. on Wednesday and to extend his administrative arrest by 24 hours.
The court is considering the request.

Navalny was placed under administrative arrest on February 19 for distributing leaflets in the Moscow metro in violation of the approved procedure for public demonstrations.

In late December 2014, the Zamoskvoretsky District Court in Moscow passed a suspended 3.5-year sentence on Alexei Navalny. His brother Oleg was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. The Navalny brothers were convicted of embezzling 26 million rubles ($415,000) from cosmetics company Yves Rocher Vostok and 4 million rubles ($64,000) from the Multidisciplinary Processing Company by way of a fraud scheme.

Boris Nemtsov, co-chair of the Republican Party of Russia – People’s Freedom Party (RPR-PARNAS) and former first deputy prime minister in the Yeltsin government, was shot and killed Friday evening in central Moscow. Investigators are considering several motives in the murder, including contract murder.
