MOSCOW, September 10 (RAPSI) – MP Magomed Selimkhanov (United Russia) has submitted a bill to the State Duma requiring prospective couples to undergo HIV testing.

The bill may amend the law on civil status acts by adding an HIV testing certificate to the list of documents that prospective couples need to submit in order to get married.

“The amendment to the law would help find and provide treatment to HIV positive people who are unaware of their infection, reduce the number of HIV-positive babies, and slow the proliferation of HIV in Russia,” reads an explanatory note to the bill.
