MOSCOW, September 14 (RAPSI) – The Irkutsk Region Prosecutor’s Office has appealed the decision of the Kuibyshev District Court in Irkutsk to parole former Tomsk Mayor Alexander Makarov, a spokesperson for the office told RIA Novosti.

“Yes, an appeal against the decision has been filed at the regional court,” the source said, adding that a date to hear the appeal had not been set.

On September 3, the Kuibyshev District Court in Irkutsk approved the application to parole Makarov who was convicted on bribery and other charges. The convict applied for parole after serving two-thirds of his prison term (seven years and six months).

The criminal case against Makarov was opened in December 2006. In 2010, he was found guilty of misfeasance and bribery. In October 2011, the Russian Supreme Court reduced his sentence by four months, and the prison term was to expire in 2019.
