MOSCOW, October 19 (RAPSI, Vladimir Yaduta) – Russian nationals Dmitrii Karpenko and Alexey Krutilin arrested in Denver, Colorado, on charges of implication in illegally exporting high-technology products from the United States to Russia, are to be transferred to New York, where they face a trial.

This order (a copy of which is at RAPSI disposal) was signed by Judge Kristen Mix, of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado yet on Tuesday.

The Russian nationals refused to take part in pre-trial hearings in Colorado agreeing to the whole process including bail hearings to take place in New York.

Matthew Belcher appointed by the court to defend Krutilin has confirmed to RAPSI that the trial is to be held in New York, since the criminal case being brought against the two Russian nationals emanates from that state.

Karpenko and Krutilin were arrested along with Alexey Barysheff, a naturalized citizen of the United States.

Charges brought against Karpenko, 33, and Krutilin, 27, also indicated in the case materials as David Powell and Simon Fox, are based on the evidence presented by NSA agent Susan Ruiz. According to her, the arrested men allegedly conspired to deliver cutting-edge microelectronics to Russia via companies BKLN Spectra, Inc. (Spectra) and UIP Techno Corp. (UIP Techno), registered by Barysheff in Brooklyn in 2015, without receipt of the government’s permit.

As law enforcers in the U.S. believe, defendants have deceived suppliers of microelectronics about product customers, provided forged shipping documentation and falsely classified the exported devices on records furnished to the Department of Commerce. However, technology products were delivered to Russia through Finland.

According to Ruiz, Karpenko and Krutilin arrived to New York on October 1 and planned to return to Russia on October 7. On October 3, they travelled to Denver, Colorado, where the next day allegedly attempted to get in a U.S. Air Force base located in Colorado Springs.

They could face up to 25 years in prison and a $1 million fine is convicted.
