MOSCOW, November 29 (RAPSI) – Russia’s Supreme Court had upheld the sentence of Rashid Yevloyev, who is to spend six years in prison for undergoing training by Islamic State (ISIS, banned in Russia) instructors, the court’s press service told RAPSI on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court’s panel dealing with military personnel has dismissed an appeal against the sentence given by the Northern Caucasus District Military Court on August 31.

Earlier, media outlets reported that Yevloyev had been apprehended in Germany, where he arrived from Syria via Turkey and was later extradited to Russia.

Investigators and courts could later establish that the young man had undergone combat and terrorist training at a training facility of illegal armed group Imarat Kavkaz near Aleppo in September through December 2013.

According to Russian law enforcers, Yevloyev was aware he was an object of interest on the part of Russia’s security service, what made him travel to Germany. Nevertheless, being on the international wanted list he was extradited to Russia.

When tried by a first-instance court, the man pleaded not guilty.
