13:21 02/12/2016

MOSCOW, December 2 (RAPSI, Lyudmila Klenko) – The Third District Military Court of Moscow has upheld detention of the head of the Federal Guard Service (FSO) in Caucasus region, General Gennady Lopyrev who stands charged with taking a grand bribe, his lawyer Ruslan Zakolyuzhny told RAPSI on Friday.

The ruling will be appealed, the attorney added.

Lopyrev was arrested on November 25 following an internal check conducted in the FSO units in Caucasus region. Later in the evening, the 94th Garrison Military Court ruled to put him in jail until January 23.

Investigators claim that Lopyrev took bribes from businessmen for protection during signing and execution of government contracts on construction and repair works. He pleaded not guilty.

Russian media outlets reported earlier that the case may be connected with the construction of the Olympic venues in Sochi.
