MOSCOW, May 25 (RAPSI) – Four alleged members of the Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia have been arrested in Moscow on suspicion of preparing terrorist attacks on public transport, the Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on its website on Thursday.

According to the statement, the group of arrested persons includes Russian nationals and citizens of Central Asian countries. FSB officers during the searches found a laboratory for explosives production, a homemade bomb, explosive components, firearms, grenades, ammunition, literature and videos of terrorist and extremist nature.

The Federal Security Service claims that suspects’ actions were controlled from Syria.

The suspects planned to leave for Syria after committing a terrorist attack for fighting with the Islamic State militants, the FSB statement reads.

The Islamic State, an organization which is prohibited in Russia, is currently one of the major threats to global security. Within the last few years, these terrorists have managed to seize large areas of Iraq and Syria. The organization is also attempting to spread its influence on North Africa – particularly, Libya.
