MOSCOW, January 10 (RAPSI) - Russian opposition politician Sergey Udaltsov on Thursday filed an application over a ban on participation in public meetings and his 30-day detention for breaking a procedure of holding rallies with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), his lawyer Dmitry Agranovsky told RAPSI.

In his complaint Udaltsov calls a 3-year administrative supervision against him illegal and accuses Russian authorities of violating his rights to a fair trial and free attendance of public events, the attorney said.

In September, Moscow’s Simonovsky District Court put Udaltsov under administrative supervision until 2021. In accordance with the court ruling, the opposition politician must register with the police two times a month, is prohibited from participating in public rallies and demonstrations, forbidden from travelling beyond the Moscow Region’s borders. The ruling was upheld by the Moscow City Court in October.

Earlier in August, Udaltsov was put in detention for 30 days for violating a procedure of holding rallies in the aftermath of a rally against the country’s pension reform.

On July 28, left-wing political organizations held a mass rally against the pension reform in Russia. Allegedly, Udaltsov took part in the public action before appearing at the designated location for the rally.
