MOSCOW, May 16 (RAPSI) – The Moscow District Military court on Thursday upheld detention of the Federal Security Service’s (FSB) colonel Kirill Cherkalin in a $850,000 bribery case, RAPSI reports from the courtroom.

Cherkalin will therefore stay jailed until June 23. The court dismissed the defendant’s motion to be released from custody. Moreover, the court granted his motion to hold the hearing behind closed doors in part and prohibited journalists from video recording.

According to the investigation, the FSB colonel has received $850,000 from a commercial organization CEO for the common protection.

Investigators believe that Cherkalin was engaged in illegal activities from November 2013 to February 2015.

In late April, two other ex-FSB officers were detained upon the order of Moscow’s Basmanny District Court. Dmitry Frolov and Andrey Vasilyev are charged with large-scale fraud.
