Former Moscow Region official to stay detained in bribery case
MOSCOW, July 15 (RAPSI) – The Moscow City Court on Monday dismissed an appeal lodged by ex-head of the Moscow Region’s Pushkino municipal district Yevgeny Zhirkov, who stands charged with receiving a bribe from a construction developer, against detention, RAPSI reported from the courtroom.
Earlier, Moscow’s Basmanny District Court placed Zhirkov in detention until August 13.
According to investigators, in 2015, Zhirkov acting as a head of another Moscow Region’s town Balashikha, received nonresidential premises with a total area of 1,000 square meters in an apartment building under construction from its developer for repeated extension of the object’s substantial completion date and general protection.
Zhirkov was arrested in June. Searches were conducted in his premises.
