MOSCOW, October 7 (RAPSI) – Victor Oblogin, ex-mayor of Gorno-Altaisk, a city in the Western Siberia, on Monday received a 4-year suspended sentence for abuse of office and fraud, information published on the Investigative Committee’s website reads.

According to investigators, Oblogin forged documents and appropriated a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the city worth over 1.5 million rubles ($23,000). Earlier, the former official insisted that he had bought the car from his ex-driver.

Moreover, from 2011 to 2014, he illegally seized 17 million rubles (over $260,000) of budget funds allocated for the support of small and medium enterprises.

The defendant also granted municipal guarantees to the Central Controlling Company, therefore inflicting damage estimated at over 107 million rubles ($1.7 million) to the city, the statement reads.
