MOSCOW, June 5 (RAPSI) – The Russian Supreme Court has declared Hayat Tahrir al-Sham representing a coalition of Islamists factions fighting in Syria a terrorist organization upon an application of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to a statement of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the organization’s operation and propagating activities pose a serious threat to Russia’s national interests, life and health of the country’s citizens.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham is a coalition of Islamists factions founded in January 2017 as a response to the established cease-fire in Syria. Currently, it includes up to 20,000 militants controlling the most part of Idlib, a city in northwestern Syria.
