MOSCOW, July 17 (RAPSI) – Two officers of Moscow city detention center Matrosskaya Tishina have been taken into custody on charges of taking bribes from detainees totaling to 5 million rubles (about $70,000) for supplying them with prohibited articles, the press service of the Moscow Investigative Committee Directorate on Friday.

The officers have been also charged with abuse of office, bribe-taking on an especially large scale, and grave extortion, the statement reads.

Investigators believe that in January through July 2019 the accused officers in violation of law systematically delivered to detainees various articles prohibited in the on the premises of the detention center; moreover, in January 2019 one of the officers demanded 500,000 rubles (about $7,000 at the current exchange rate) from a detainee threating to worsen his detention conditions.
