MOSCOW, July 30 (RAPSI) – More than 4,000 websites distributing fake information have been blocked at the request of prosecutors since the beginning of 2020, the press service of Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office reports.

The number of online fakes has increased due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the body.

This year, prosecutors received over 340 notifications of the fake information dissemination. In order to block it, 153 requests were sent to the Russian communications watchdog Roskomnadzor, as compared to 6 in the same period in 2019. As a result of consideration of 219 requests over 4,000 websites were blocked; illegal statements were delete from more than 25,000 resources, the statement reads.
