MOSCOW, December 14 (RAPSI) – Moscow’s Tagansky District Court on Monday sentenced defendants in a case over 2.9 billion-ruble (over $40 million) embezzlement from the Russian Defense Ministry to prison terms ranging from 7 to 12 years, the press service of the Investigative Committee reported.

Thus, Mikhail Fomin received 12 years in jail and 1 million-ruble fine; Maxim Voronkov was ordered to be jailed for 11 years and fined 1 million rubles; Ivan Loshkarev was given 9 years in penal colony and fined 800,000 rubles; Igor Bykov was sentenced to 7 years behind bars and 800,000-ruble fine.

Moreover, the court granted the Ministry’s claim for damages in full.

From 2010 to 2013, the defendants concluded fictious contracts on the provision of services for the energy accounting instrument reading throughout Russia and further execution of corresponding report documents. Thus, they stole 2,944,579,000 rubles, the case papers read.
