MOSCOW, February 3 (RAPSI) – The South Military District Court will consider a criminal case against alleged membes of a notorious gang once led by Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev and Khattab over an attack against Russian soldiers in 1999, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office has told RAPSI. 

According to investigators, in August 1999, the accused persons took part in the armed attack against servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. As a result, 33 soldiers were killed and 34 received wounds.

The defendants are charged with racketeering, participation in an armed insurrection and infringement on the military service life. They are in detention.
