MOSCOW, July 1 (RAPSI) - President Vladimir Putin has signed the law banning the promotion of homosexuality among children. The document was published on the government website of legal information on Sunday.

According to the law, fines for the promotion of same-sex relationships among children will range from 4,000 to 5,000 rubles ($122-$153) for individuals, 40,000 to 50,000 rubles ($1,223-1,530) for officials, and 800,000 to 1 million rubles ($24,460-$30,570) for legal entities. 

The operation of legal entities guilty of promoting same-sex relationships can also be suspended for up to 90 days.

The punishment will be even harsher if the promoter has used the media or the Internet as a channel to promote homosexuality. Individuals will be fined 50,000 to 100,000 rubles ($1,530-$3,060), officials will have to pay 100,000 to 200,000 rubles ($3,060-$6,120), and companies will have to pay 1 million rubles or face a 90-day suspension of operations.
