MOSCOW, October 5 - RAPSI. The government has submitted to the State Duma a set of proposed amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code that would allow a case to be reopened or an earlier judgment to be reconsidered if new facts about a more serious crime committed by the convict are uncovered, a source in the State Duma told RIA Novosti.

The current code stipulates that a case can be reopened or a judment reviewed if new or newly established circumstances emerge indicating that the convict has committed a graver crime. The Constitutional Court has declared these provisions unconstitutional.

In view of this, the government has put together these amendments so as to protect the constitutional rights of Russian citizens.
