UN, December 21 - RAPSI. The UN General Assembly has approved a Russia-initiated resolution against glorifying Nazism.
Roughly 130 countries supported the resolution. Only the United States, Canada and Palau voted against. Another 54 countries abstained from voting.
The resolution reads that practices resulting in the escalation of modern forms of racism, discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance are inadmissible. The document raises serious concerns about the growth of extremist movements and political parties, racism, ethnocentrism and xenophobia, fascism and the idea of racial superiority.
The resolution condemns glorifying the Nazi movement and former members of Waffen SS, such as through opening monuments and memorials, and holding demonstrations praising Nazism and Neo-Nazism.
The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed regret that the United States and Canada voted against the resolution.
