KIEV, May 21 (RAPSI) – The Verkhovna Rada will ensure the unconditional implementation of a constitutional reform focused on the decentralization of power, reads the parliament’s resolution adopted on Tuesday.
The memorandum, for which 252 of the required 226 votes were cast, provides for amending the constitution to establish a parliamentary-presidential republic, to restore the balance of authority between all the branches of power, to implement an embracing judicial reform in order to guarantee people’s rights to a fair and impartial trial and an independent court system.
The parliament also pledged to back the regions’ authority with financial resources through a fair distribution of budgetary revenues and to reform law enforcement agencies and the prosecutor offices in order to ensure people’s safety and to restore their trust in the law enforcement system, in particular, by withdrawing the supervising authority from prosecutor offices.
The memorandum was adopted as a binding resolution and became effective as of its adoption.
