MOSCOW, March 13 (RAPSI) – Russia’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection drafted a bill that would strip benefits from well-off pensioners who continue working after reaching retirement age, according to the government's official website for pending legislation.

Minister Maxim Topilin said that representatives of field-specific agencies met with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to discuss the possibility of suspending the payment of pensions to pension-age people whose income exceeds 1 million rubles ($16,400) a year or 83,000 rubles ($1,360) per month in 2016 or 2017.

Topilin said the measure would only affect about 220,000 pensioners.

He added that payments to these pensioners could be increased later if they agree to suspend their pensions. This could encourage people of retirement age to postpone receiving retirement benefits.
