MOSCOW, April 10 (RAPSI) – Toy manufacturers will be provided with age grading guidelines and required to label their products in accordance with them, Izvestia newspaper reported on Friday, citing Yelena Mizulina, who chairs the State Duma's family issues committee.

In a recent scandal, a landmark children’s store in Moscow was warned about selling toy soldiers in Nazi uniforms. The Moscow City Prosecutor’s Office has opened a criminal case while the offending toys were removed from sale.

A group of experts are preparing amendments to the federal law on Basic Guarantees of the Rights of the Child, according to Mizulina.

The bill would regulate the marketing of children’s toys and toy grading in accordance with international standards, she said.

“As of now, producers or distributors place age recommendations at their discretion. This bill would require them to do this and would introduce administrative penalties for violations,” Izvestia quoted Mizulina as saying.

The bill would also introduce new quality requirements for children’s products, according to Mizulina.
