MOSCOW, May 13 (RAPSI) - State Duma's Communist lawmaker Vadim Solovyov suggests prohibiting commercial use of state symbols, RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday.

The bill may reach the parliament this fall, according to Solovyov.

It was reported earlier that the State Duma is considering a ban on using the Russian anthem as a phone ring tone.

Solovyov’s bill would extend the restriction on any commercial use of state symbols, including the national flag and coat of arms, the Victory Day banner, and the Constitution. The parliament member believes that the state symbols must be strictly used as intended.

Solovyov argues that the commercial use of state symbols may be possible only after conducting a special examination that prevents distortion of the symbols and their inappropriate use.

“Anybody who uses the state symbols for any purpose must feel a responsibility to the state and the society for using these symbols. Meanwhile, the state must be in control,” the parliament member noted.

Solovyov adds that patriotism must be instilled from early years – specifically, through the perception of state symbols. “If children see disrespect for or inappropriate use of them, eventually it will lead to denial of the statehood,” he said.

When finished, the bill will undergo public examination. All comments and suggestions will be considered.
