MOSCOW, April 5 (RAPSI) – The State Duma passed in the third and final reading on Thursday a bill establishing a ban on certain actions as a new measure of restraint.

Amendments have been proposed to the Criminal Procedure Code of Russia.

Under the bill, suspects or accused persons may be barred from certain actions under a court decision if it is impossible to apply another less restrictive preventive measure. A court may prohibit defendants from leaving home at a certain time, attending certain places and events, using the Internet and other ways of communication, driving cars and other vehicles.

However, the rights of investigated persons to use phone for emergency, rescue service and law enforcement calls if needed must not be restricted.

Prohibition on certain actions may be combined with release on bail and house arrest.

Ban violation may result in a greater restrictive measure, the initiative reads.
